Locomotives and stock 'stuffed and mounted'
There are a number of engines preserved on plinths in towns throughout the area. These include: Puerto Madryn: Beyer, Peacock 2-6-0, no. 2964 of 1888, metre gauge, ex FCCC No.3. Trelew: O. & K. 0-4-0WT, no. 12861 of 1936, 60cm. gauge, ex F. Ameghino dam works. Ingeniero Jacobacci: Henschel 2-8-2 no. 139, 75cm. gauge, ex FC Gen. Roca/Esquel line; also Henschel no. 150 stored at Ing. Jac. depot for Museo Nacional Ferroviario. Comodoro Rivadavia: Manning Wardle broad gauge 0-6-0T no 1351 of 1897, ex C. Rivadavia port; also Schoema and Brookeville industrial diesels, 0-4-0D, details unknown, 60cm. gauge, in the Oil Museum, probably from YPF works in Comodoro. Motorail / Simplex 20hp 60cm gauge, mounted on the remains of a rail bridge in the central reservation of the coastal road, out near Km 5. Carmen de Patagones: Beyer Peacock 2-6-0 outside the railway station. Río Gallegos: Henschel 0-8-0CT (minus crane) no. 19456 of 1922, 75cm. gauge, ex FCE/RFIRT; also Avonside 0-4-0T no. 1592 of 1910, ex frigorifico; together with Mitsubishi 2-10-2 no. 117 at the Ferroafficionados base near the old loco depot. Río Turbio: Henschel 0-6-0T; no. 19455 of 1922, 75cm. gauge, ex FCE/RFIRT; and a Sentinel steam lorry. Puerto Natales: Avonside 0-6-0T no.1861 of 1920 in the plaza; and an O. & K. 0-4-0T behind the museum; both metre gauge, both ex Pto. Bories - Pto. Natales frigorifico line. Ushuaia: O. & K. 0-6-0WT, no. 4011 of 1910?, 60cm. gauge, plus a passenger carriage, ex Ushuaia prison forestry railway. Punta Arenas: Hanomag 0-4-0WT no. 4567 of 1910, and Drewry 0-4-0D (no. 2203 of 1944), in the Mueo del Recuerdo out near the ferry terminal at Tres Puentes; another German-built 0-4-0T (of 1906?) all metre gauge and all from Estancia San Gregorio and Puerto Sara. Neuquen has a couple of 60cm. gauge O&K 0-4-0Ts which might possibly be from the Dirección de Irrigación stock mentioned in chapter 12. There are also broad gauge coaches preserved in Rawson and in Puerto Deseado. Castro has a Henschel 0-6-0T, 60cm gauge, on the quayside to commemorate the Ancud - Castro line
Outside the area there are a few engines preserved that have Patagonian connections: Puente Alto in the south east suburbs of Santiago. In the barracks there were a Jung 0-6-2T and carriage and wagon, from the Puente Alto - Volcan line. These are identical to those which worked on Chiloe Island. They have more recently been moved to Melocoton station with a view to overhaul and operation on part of the line. Villa Maria south of Cordoba: Henschel 2-8-2 no. 134, ex FCE 75cm. gauge stock, later worked on El Zapallar - Lapachita line in Chaco. Olavarria depot (loco owned by Museo Nacional Ferroviario): Class 11C 4-8-0 no. 4222, Armstrong Whitworth no 588 of 1930, similar to those that worked on line to Bariloche. Empalme Lobos depot (locos owned by Museo Nacional Ferroviario): Class 11D 2-8-0 no. 4316, Armstrong Whitworth no.741 of 1925, similar to those that worked on line to Bariloche; also class 11S 2-8-0 no. 4095, Vulcan Foundry no. 2054 of 1905, similar to those that worked on line from C. Rivadavia to Sarmiento. Mechita depot (loco owned by Ferroclub Chivilcoy): class 15B 4-8-0 no. 1567, Vulcan Foundry no. 5634 of 1948, similar to those that worked on line to Bariloche. Campos de Mayo (outskirts of Buenos Aires): Henschel 2-8-2 No. 103 from the 1922 batch is preserved here for the Museo de Ingenieros.
Locos at the last four sites are not necessarily open to public view.
